Google Meet transcription

Meet leaves the recording in Drive. Take it from there, upload it here, and read the call back with every speaker named and every line timestamped.

  • Straight from the recordings folder in Drive
  • Speaker labels and a timestamp on every line
  • DOCX and PDF for circulating the minutes

Getting the recording out

From a Meet recording to minutes

  1. Open Drive, not Meet

The recording is saved to the organiser’s Drive, in a folder Meet creates for recordings, and a link arrives by email once processing has finished.

  2. Download the video

A call that has just ended may take a while to appear — it is being processed, not lost. Download it once it is there.

  3. Upload it here

Drop the file into the box above, choose the language spoken and turn on speaker recognition. No account needed for the first file.

  4. Turn the transcript into minutes

Rename the speakers, fix the names the model guessed, export DOCX or PDF for everyone who missed the call.

Live captions disappear; the file does not

Captions on screen are gone the moment the call ends, and whether Meet can record or caption at all depends on the Workspace edition behind the account. What survives either way is the file in Drive. Transcribing that file gives you what a live caption never does: text you can correct, search, quote with a timestamp, and hand to someone who was not there.

FAQ

Questions before you upload

Transcribe a file

Where is the Meet recording saved?

In the organiser’s Google Drive, in the folder Meet creates for recordings. A link is emailed to the organiser once processing finishes.

The recording is not in Drive yet.

Processing takes a while after a long call, and the file lands under the organiser’s account rather than everyone’s. If you did not organise the meeting, ask them to share it.

Can I get the minutes in another language?

Yes. Transcribe in the language spoken, then translate the finished transcript. Speaker labels and timestamps survive the translation, so the translated minutes stay checkable.

Meeting somewhere else?

The transcript is the same either way; where the recording waits for you is not.
