Microsoft Teams meeting transcription

The Teams recording ends up in OneDrive or SharePoint. Download it, upload it here, and read the meeting back with every speaker named.

  • Works from the video file, whatever your licence allows

Getting the recording out

From a Teams recording to minutes

  1. Open the recording where Teams put it

A recorded meeting goes to the organiser’s OneDrive; a channel meeting goes to that channel’s SharePoint library. The meeting chat carries a link to it either way.

  2. Download the file

Save the video to your computer. Permissions travel with the file, so if you only have view access, ask whoever recorded the meeting to share it with you.

  3. Upload it here

Drop the video into the box above — the audio is extracted for you — pick the language spoken and turn on speaker recognition.

  4. Write the minutes from the text

Rename the speakers, correct names and jargon in the editor, then export DOCX or PDF.

A route that does not depend on your administrator

Whether Teams transcribes for you at all is decided by your licence and your organisation’s policy — which is to say, by someone other than you. The recording itself is just a file sitting in OneDrive or SharePoint, and a file you can download is a file you can transcribe: speakers separated, a timestamp on every line, and the text in front of you before it becomes the official record.

FAQ

Questions before you upload

Transcribe a file

Where does the Teams recording actually go?

A regular meeting saves to the organiser’s OneDrive; a channel meeting saves to that channel’s SharePoint library. The link posted in the meeting chat points at whichever it is.

I can see the recording but cannot download it.

Permissions follow the file in OneDrive or SharePoint, so ask the organiser for download access or a copy. Nothing here can open a file your own account cannot.

Does it cope with a call of fifteen people?

Yes, with the usual caveat: the more voices, the harder they are to tell apart — especially when several people share one room and one microphone. People taking turns on their own devices separate cleanly.

Meeting somewhere else?

The transcript is the same either way; where the recording waits for you is not.
