Get the transcript of a long YouTube video

Paste the link to a YouTube video of up to 10 hours. WhoScribe transcribes the audio, so it works even when the video has no captions.

  • Videos up to 10 hours long
  • Works without captions
  • One transcript with timestamps, not pieces
  • $5 for the whole video, whatever its length
  • An hour-long video is usually ready in a few minutes

Why long videos are hard to transcribe elsewhere

YouTube's own "Show transcript" panel only appears when a video has captions, and tools that copy captions return nothing for videos without them. Chat assistants work from text: given a link to a long video without captions, they usually ask you for the audio file or a transcript. WhoScribe takes the audio from the link and transcribes it, so captions are not required, and a long video comes back as one transcript instead of a set of parts. The first 5 minutes are readable with no account and the first 15 with a free account; $5 unlocks the rest of the video, whatever its length.

How it works

Three steps to your first transcript

  1. Drop in your file

Audio or video of any length; the free plan transcribes the first 15 minutes of each file. MP3, MP4, M4A, WAV, MOV and a dozen more.

  2. Pick the language

Leave the language on automatic or set it for better accuracy. Turn on speaker recognition if you need to know who said what.

  3. Read, edit, export

The transcript opens with clickable timestamps — read it and fix a name straight away. A free account keeps it and exports it as TXT; DOCX, PDF, SRT and VTT come with the unlimited plan.

FAQ

Questions before you upload

Try it on this page

How long can the video be?

Up to 10 hours. Longer videos can be split into two links or files.

How much does a 3-hour video cost?

The same as a short one: one payment of $5 unlocks the whole video, with no subscription.

Does the video need captions?

No. The audio is transcribed, so videos without captions or with poor automatic captions work.

How long does it take?

An hour-long video is usually transcribed in a few minutes. Very long videos take longer; you can leave the page and come back.

Which videos cannot be imported?

Private videos, members-only videos and streams that have not ended yet. Download the file and upload it if you have access to it.

What can I do with the transcript?

Export TXT, DOCX, PDF, SRT or VTT, ask questions in the built-in chat, or generate a summary, notes or YouTube chapters.
