Getting the recording out
From a Zoom recording to minutes
1
Find the recording
A cloud recording waits in your Zoom recordings list. A local one lands in the Zoom folder on the computer that hosted, once the meeting has finished converting.
2
Take the audio-only file
Zoom saves an audio-only file next to the video. It uploads faster and transcribes exactly the same, so there is no reason to send the video.
3
Upload it here
Drop the file into the box above, choose the language spoken and turn on speaker recognition. No account needed for the first file.
4
Pull the minutes out of it
Rename the speakers once, correct any name the model guessed, then export DOCX or PDF for the people who were not on the call.
Zoom will hand you a transcript on some plans, and it is fine for a quick scan — until it meets a person’s name, a product or an accent it has not heard before, which is exactly what you end up quoting. Here you see the text before it becomes the record: fix the words that matter, rename the speakers, click any line to hear it said again, then export a file the room can read.
Either works. Cloud recordings download from your recordings list; local ones sit in the Zoom folder on the host’s computer once the meeting has finished converting. The audio-only file transcribes as well as the video and uploads faster.
Do I have to be the host?
You need the file, whoever made it. Zoom only lets the host record, so if someone else ran the meeting, ask them for the recording or the share link.
Can it tell everyone on the call apart?
When people take turns, yes — each line is labelled and you rename the speakers once. Two people talking at once, or a room sharing one laptop microphone, is where any tool struggles; you can merge or relabel afterwards.

Meeting somewhere else?
The transcript is the same either way; where the recording waits for you is not.
